Fantasy Football Tight Ends - decreased production defenses blitz?

This week we wanted to look at strategy article in a position to take a tight end. For some time I thought that if you do not have an elite tight end position for a player that can stream a week, and similar defenses. While this article does not answer specific questions, will serve as a step in that direction. The aim is to explore the concept that tight ends against defenses that make extensive use of the blitz caught in max-protectblock of programs and you will see fewer opportunities to achieve more than they do against defending conservative.

If one of the fantasy points allowed to tight end abruptly against pockets in which each data point represents a defense of the NFL and the x-axis is the number of bags that the defense so far in the 2009 season is a direct correlation between sacks allowed and points allowed. The bags are used for this analysis as a proxy for the blitz frequency.

The y-axis is the average number of FFLpoints the defense has produced close to opposite extremes. Together, each data point represents the ratio of how many times lightning defense operations and point to allow the position of tight end. Contrary to our hypothesis above, this data confirms that there is indeed a linear relationship between the defense that the heavy blitz and points allowed for the TE. Being, as a defense of its use increases the blitz, you can expect the tight end fantasy opponent to see an increasein production.

It makes sense if you think about it. Quarterback forced under pressure to quickly download the ball out. In most cases, is quick to read a running back of the backfield or the TE over the middle. The data suggest that the offensive coordinators prefer the TE as a loss to counter the blitz instead of the maximum protection blocking schemes.

Let's look at some concrete examples. Zach Miller is having a pretty decent year for the Oakland Raidersand its biggest games of the season have come against the Eagles and Chargers, two teams that make extensive use of the Blitz. Antonio Gates also had his biggest game of the year against the Steelers blitz happy.

In summary, it appears that tight ends for fantasy football purposes seems to play better defense against the Blitz in service. Although we like to do further analysis before recommending a strategy for streaming TF seems to make sense if you do nothave an elite TE in your team.
